What Is Laser Therapy and How Is It Used in Veterinary Medicine?

Laser therapy (also referred to as cold laser therapy or Class IV laser therapy) is a holistic therapeutic treatment modality that is commonly used in clinical settings and in physical therapy practices.
The cold laser is set to emit laser light at a specific wavelength which has been shown to trigger a healing response at the cellular level of the body. This healing response helps to increase circulation and blood flow while reducing inflammation and pain in the targeted treated area. As a result, cold laser therapy is used as both a pain management tool and as a tool to accelerate healing after surgery or an injury.

Does Laser Therapy Really Work?

Laser therapy has been in use on humans since the 1970s, and there is plenty of scientific research backing its success. Although cold laser therapy has not been in use in veterinary settings for quite as long, the research and results are quite promising as the application of cold laser therapy has shown similar results in pets as in people.
